| How
do I share a compensation profile with another
person who has the software?
To create a zip file of the data
go to the Profiles tab of the
Worksheet form. Highlight the correct
profile and click on Export Profile.
Note the path and name of the resulting file.
Copy or email the file to the other person.
The other person creates a new profile with the
correct program year, name, and congregation.
Then the other person clicks on Import
Profile and follows the steps. Also
see Exporting and Importing.

| The
geography units do not adequately account for
the high cost of living in our area. How can we
use the guidelines and still take this into
consideration?
The geography units are an imprecise way of
making adjustments for regional cost of living.
Congregations should consider local factors and
make adjustments accordingly. One way is
to use the Optional Other Units section
on the FTE/Guide tab and add more units
to the compensation. Another way is to
adjust the Percentage of Guidelines on
the same tab. Both options allow a
congregation to base compensation on the
guidelines but make appropriate adjustments for
the local situation.

| The
senior pastor has less experience than an
associate. How do we use the guidelines and
still pay the senior pastor more than the
associate?
Consider using the Optional Other Units
section on the FTE/Guide tab. Add
units for the senior pastors to achieve the
desired result.

| We
want to pay our pastor fairly but our
congregation simply cannot afford the
guidelines. Is there a way to use the
guidelines but adjust it for what our
congregation can afford?
Two options come to mind.
If the congregation cannot pay according to
guidelines, perhaps the full-time equivalency
should be reduced on the FTE/Guide tab.
For example, rather than expecting full time
work for part-time compensation, reduce the
FTE.
Another option is to lower the
Percentage of Guidelines paid on the
FTE/Guide tab. E.g. instead of using
100%, reduce it to 95% of guidelines.
(Hint: You can click on
the percentage and use the + or - keys to change
the percentage. If you do this on the
Summary tab, you can see the resulting changes
in compensation.)

| What
happens if I do not accept the default
directories during installation?
Prior to April 2007 the default directory for the
installation of Salary Guidelines program
files was c:\psg. Now it is c:\program
files\psg. The default directory
for the installation of Paradox Runtime 10
is c:\Program Files\Corel\Paradox 10
Runtime\Programs\pdxrwn32.exe. If you
downloaded the program prior to October 27, 2006
and did not accept these defaults, you may need to
modify the "target" in the shortcut icon placed
on your desktop and in the start menu for the
program to work.
If there is a compelling
reason to use other directories, you can modify
the shortcut and menu by right-clicking and
selecting properties. Normally the
"target" would be "c:\Program
Files\Corel\Paradox 10
Runtime\Programs\pdxrwn32.exe" c:\psg\psgprog\mainform.fdl
-q -p c:\psg\Private. Correct by
replacing with the correct directory paths.
You may also need to place the directory path in
quotes, e.g. "c:\psg\psgprog\mainform.fdl"
and "c:\psg\Private".

| In the
past I have negotiated "related experience" with
the congregation. How should this be
shown? One way is to
enter the related experience for the dates that
it actually occurred. Since the automatic
calculation will figure it at 1/2 of the years,
an "adjusting experience" could be entered, e.g.
"Experience units adjusted as agreed" with
appropriate years. Be sure to check that
the total experience units is correct.

| When I
start the program, I get an error message:
"Private directory is invalid or undefined.
Using temporary directory instead. I can
continue on without problem but this is
annoying. What do I do?
This may be a problem for those
who downloaded the program before October 28,
2006 and may be partially related to changing
the default directory during installation.
Modify the target in the shortcut and
menu by right-clicking and selecting properties.
The "target" for a default
installation should be "c:\Program
Files\Corel\Paradox 10
Runtime\Programs\pdxrwn32.exe"
"c:\psg\psgprog\mainform.fdl"
-q -p "c:\psg\Private".
Note the quote marks surrounding the two paths
in blue which may be missing from your
installation.
If you changed the default
installation to program files, the correct
target should be "c:\Program
Files\Corel\Paradox 10
Runtime\Programs\pdxrwn32.exe"
"c:\Program Files\psg\psgprog\mainform.fdl"
-q -p "c:\Program
Files\psg\Private". Again,
look for the missing quotation marks.
